I was lucky enough that my first photography course was a film class taught by a passionate instructor. I was also lucky enough to have my dad’s old Nikon FM that I could use for it. I went into the course thinking that it was going to be just like shooting my dads little Canon Powershot from Costco but I was way wrong. Laboring in the darkroom and having your teacher yell at you for not rinsing your prints long enough made me wonder what I got myself into. But as I got the hang of the craft I started to realize that film was a completely different medium then digital photography.
Over the years I’ve wanted to go back to slow awkward cameras and enjoy the feeling of getting your film developed. Here’s some images shot on film through my FM and through other old new cameras. An exploration into the physical image if you will.
