Of course when I went to Chicago I took a couple film cameras. I knew that if my digital cameras ran out of batteries or god forbid stopped working I wanted a backup. So for this trip I chose my Nikon FM and Yashica Mat 124G. I didn’t end up shooting the nikon much because it had slow 100 speed slide film but the B&W film in the Yashica seemed to be the best fit. And after shooting a roll there, I can say I wish I took more images with this little TLR.
When I first bought the Yashica I really didn’t think I liked it. It felt cheap, light weight, and had some fungus in the taking lens. The worst part though was it didn’t inspire me to shoot, at least at the time. Now though my perception has changed and I have truly fallen in love with this little camera. It felt like the perfect companion for this trip and it even has me thinking about possible getting rid of my Mamiya C3. Maybe not, but I’m glad that I’m finally starting to fall for this camera and make images that I’m truly happy about. All these images were taken on Kodak Tri-X developed by hand in Rodinal at a 1:50 dilution.
