Well I finally made it to one of these sports games everyone talks about and I would be lying if I said it wasn’t fun. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a baseball game and I’ve only been to the Rockies Stadium downtown denver. Being someone who doesn’t follow baseball the only teams I know are The Bears, Yankees, The Rockies, and The Cardinals so when one the australian masters students suggested going I had to say yes!
There’s really not much to say about my experience there, because spending time at a baseball game feels just about as foreign to me as being in a different country. It was honestly a weird feeling because I was surrounded by people who looked like me, talked like me, and dressed like me (kinda) but I felt disconnected entirely. Sitting in those seats I noticed those surrounded by friends and family who you could see the energy in their eyes and excitement that distracts them from the milieu of the day to day. It reminded me of the energy I see in my older brother when he’s skiing, nothing but the snow, moving fast, being with family, and friends. It may have felt foreign to me sitting there in that moment not knowing the rituals and traditions of the cardinals, but I wasn’t confused just enthralled at being able to witness someone else’s escape.
