I’m not sure I knew anything about Quebec City before Catherine mentioned how close it was to a buddy’s wedding this past fall. So instead of heading straight back to our respected places after Rueben’s ceremony at Lake George, NY. Catherine and I went ahead and planned a short road trip up from Lake George up to Quebec, Canada for a couple nights. Since she’s been there before I let her find a cool place to stay and all I had to do was find a rental car we could afford to get there with.
Luckily everything came together and we ended up staying in a cool B&B just outside the city’s wall near some college.
I’m not sure I have colorful language or stories writing this now (almost a year to date from being there). But the whole trip felt so welcome after being cooped up during COVID and feeling stuck in our normal places. I remember the feeling of being in a foreign place despite just a 5 hour drive from the norms of the US. Quebec was unmistakably European, from the architecture of the city, to the languages being spoken all around you I couldn’t help but think I was in France and not just a little further North than usually. Also, I can’t speak more highly of Catherine being able to walk into shops or restaurants and speak french well enough they just assumed I did too. Definitely the best way to fly undercover in a place full of Americans haha. Can’t wait to go back and maybe this time it will be in the snow (supposedly they get feet of snow in the winter).
