I finally got a new old camera! Every year during the summer I go through my photography gear and decide what has been useful and what hasn't. After buying my Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 last summer I almost entirely stoped using my Canon 24-105mm F4 USM IS L, so it had to go. I couldn't decide whether to spend it on a new 4x5 film camera or save for another lens.....
I always wanted to get a range finder camera but I was dead set on getting the Fuji X-Pro 1 which was way more then the price of just that lens. However it wasn't till I walked into Englewood Camera (where I develop my film) that I noticed I could afford another Fuji Rangefinder called the x100s. After hours on youtube, reading reviews, and looking at DP Review's lab comparisons I learn that not only is the x100s a one-lens X-Pro 1 but it had remarkably similar image quality to my Canon 7D MarkII.
After having it for about three months now I have to say I absolutely love this camera. It's really hard to believe that in 2018 I'd be impressed by a 2015, 16 megapixel camera. The 23mm F2 lens is really sharp wide open and the x-trans sensor really does have the character everyone talks about. I've been using this camera as a walk around, bring everywhere camera to make my Instagram stories, and it's perfect for that!
The positives about this camera are written all over the internet so I'll share with you what I dislike about it so far. First, the battery life is absolutely awful but I find that if you're careful you can make it last all day with 2 batteries. I also find it too small to hold comfortably for long periods of time, I've since added a thumb grip which surprisingly helps alot. Finally, the auto focus is pretty slow, making capturing action much more difficult. That being said I really enjoy this new old camera. Here are some sample images:
